a retained search for a new CEO.
ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND
The board and staff of Kaposia advance the inclusion of
people with disabilities and other challenges in working and participating in
their communities. Kaposia envisions a
world in which all people are valued. Anyone, regardless of their personal,
social or financial condition can make a contribution to the community. Kaposia
sees itself as a key facilitator and industry leader in making this vision a
reality.
Kaposia prides itself on being a leader in customized and integrated employment services. They were one of the first in the country to be “facility free.” This spirit of innovation continues today, as the organization continues to evolve in reaching their vision. Kaposia’s suite of services include career planning, job development, on the job training and on-going retention services. They also provide specialized support services for those in transition, whether it is from school to work, from work to retirement or a myriad of other transitional situations.
As an organization Kaposia is celebrating its 45th anniversary. The current CEO, Jackie Mlynarczyk has led the organization for 34 of those years, continually moving the organization forward, along with a great team of professionals. Jackie will be retiring from Kaposia on July 1, 2008. Currently the staff is 65 strong, with 4 direct reports to the CEO: 1) Director of Operations 2) Director of Human Resources 3) Director of Finance and 4) Director of Advancement. Kaposia’s operating budget is approximately $4 Million per year.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The CEO will report to the Kaposia Board of Directors. The CEO is responsible for leading, directing and managing the Company in a manner consistent with the mission, vision and values of Kaposia, and doing so in a fiscally responsible and ethically sound manner.
Working in concert with the Board of Directors, the CEO will engage in envisioning the future of the Company, setting the strategic direction of its activities and initiatives, and putting them into action.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
The CEO of Kaposia is responsible for strategic leadership with both internal and external audiences. Specific responsibilities include:
· Assist the Board of Directors in the development of a Strategic Plan. Work with current and prospective customers and employees of the Company to identify and achieve the stated mission and vision of the Company.
· Direct an annual goal-setting and planning process with Company employees in response to the directives of the Strategic Plan.
· Monitor and evaluate Company performance against operating plans and assure quality standards for all service operations are implemented.
· Direct a process to monitor all applicable regulatory and legal requirements and adjust Company policy and practice as required to ensure compliance.
· Develop and maintain procedures that assure the rights of employees and/or prospective employees to fair, equitable and humane treatment by the Company and its representatives.
· Develop and maintain procedures to assure the rights of customers.
·
Monitor the Company’s human resources activities
including the development and maintenance of job descriptions, personnel
policies, training, and professional development programs.
· Propose an annual operating budget for the Company and present to the Board of Directors by December 1 of the preceding year.
·
Negotiate and oversee the implementation of the
budget such that revenues will exceed expenditures on an annual basis unless
otherwise approved in advance by the Board.
An “Operating Reserve Fund” will be maintained.
· Identify funding needs and work closely with the Board in developing total funding support.
· Assist in the recruitment and orientation of new board members.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate for this position is a seasoned and visionary professional with the ability to execute. The successful candidate will be a person of integrity and stature in the community with proven leadership and senior management experience, exemplary business and/or nonprofit management skills, and a strong commitment to customized employment for people with developmental disabilities and other challenges.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s degree preferred) and at least 10 years of progressive leadership experience is a must. Knowledge of employment and other issues facing individuals with disabilities is a key qualification for the position. Other essential skills and experience include:

The salary for this position is commensurate with experience and competitive with similar sized nonprofits and a full benefits package is provided.
